You may already know Lara as the author of Period Repair Manual which we’ll talk about more today. Lara was one of my very first guests, and I’m excited to have her back on the show. In our first interview together we delved into what the pill is really doing to your hormones, and it has been one of my most popular episodes of the show, so if you missed it definitely go back and listen to episode 007. Dr. Briden is a Naturopathic doctor with over 20 years of experience in women’s health. She specializes in the area of hormone health, and she is the founder of larabriden.com where she educates the masses on maintaining healthy hormones!
In today’s show, we delve into hypothalamic amenorrhea and HPA axis dysregulation, which is a topic I’ve had many requests to delve into on the show.

Amazing episode! Although I have yet to hear an episode that’s not amazing.. I continue to yell ‘Yes, EXACTLY!!’ to my lawnmower every time I listen.
I had a thought about this one though. At the end, Lara suggests going off the pill ASAP and to use FAM as the alternative contraceptive method. I’m totally on board with that in theory, in fact I went off HBC in January and have been trying to use FAM ever since. The problem is, as you’ve said yourself, charts get CRAZY for a while coming off of HBC, not making cycles the easiest thing to navigate in terms of *can I have sex today*. Fortunately, my partner and I are comfortable using condoms, but I wonder about strict FAM users just coming off of the pill; how frustrating to not only have an irregular cycle, but also limited safe days for intercourse. I’d be so curious to hear your thoughts!
Also, TOTALLY into the alcohol episode. There’s just not enough female-centric info out there about what it’s doing to our bodies. As a social drinker, I’d love to be more aware!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all that you’re doing. You’re definitely a highlight of my week; you remind me I’m not totally alone in this fertility awareness outlook on life! #teamcervicalmucus
